In hindsight, she should have realised something was up.

There were small burns on Namor’s chest and arms, that he became more snappy than usual if you asked him about, and an smell of Kippers that hung around Jim like a cologne.

And she’d grown up with Roger and Bri.

But Roger and Brian were like something out of story or a romance novelette, fitting together in so many ways. Once you knew, the only surprised seemed to be that they hadn’t got together sooner.

On the other hand, Namor and Jim Hammond were all angles and sharp lines. You’d think If they got close to each other, then they’d cut.

Still, she had to admit they were a good couple. Good for the Invaders, possibly, rather than good for each other.

Jim could take the edge off or even force Namor to back down over his more cutting remarks, and Namor was strong and experienced enough to protect Jim from some of Bucky’s more...cutting jokes.

So walking in on Jim bent over the globe in the library and Namor lording over him was a good thing, right?
It was just...she thought as she watched Bucky and Toro played “tag” in the grounds, Why did she have to be on a team where everyone liked guys?

Brian had no idea what he was doing here.

He’d had no idea what he was doing when he slipped out of the house at the crack of dawn to catch the milk train to Windsor, no idea why he’d climbed the ivy and dropped over the  wall.

All he knew was it was 14th February, and he was standing outside Roger Audrey’s door, clutching a box of chocolates and hoping against hope that no one was around.

It was half term, but there were at least half a dozen who, like Roger, would have remained in school.

This was insane, but his hand was knocking on the door.

It opened slowly, and he tried not to panic, as the hinges creaked, sounding like a scream down the quiet corridor.

“Bri?” Roger stared out at him, and this has to be love, because even though Roger is still half asleep, and his hair was all over the place, Bri still wanted him.

“What are you doing here?”

“May I come in?”

Roger seemed to take a moment to consider this.

“You’d better.”

It was only once they were inside Roger’s small room that Bri realised what Roger was wearing, or not wearing, was possibly more accurate.

“Oh.” He muttered flushing. “You’re...I mean you were...”

“Sleeping Bri. That’s what normal people are doing at 7 am during the hols.” He moved suddenly, capturing Brian’s buttocks with one fluid movement. “Good thing we’re not normal huh?”

“Uhu.” It’s the only sound he can make.

“Happy Valentine’s day.” Roger whispers, holding out a wrapped gift.

He remembers what he was thinking, all that time. It was simply Roger.

“It is, isn’t it?” He muttered, gently.
