The Characters of Foyle’s War are copyright of Antony Howitzer. The idea for this story and the character of Toby Jugg came from the Haunting of Toby Jugg by Dennis Wheatley's and the BBC adaption, the Haunted Airman of the same book and are copyright of each respectively. The While I enjoyed both, I wasn’t overly keen on either ending, so decided to have try at writing my own version, using Foyle’s War. As a result I discovered why there are so Few Foyle’s War Stories. They are very difficult to write. The Characters of Bucky and Thomas are inspired by Marvel Characters. Please Read and Review.(especially this is my first attempt at posting a fiction and want to know if it'll work). Thanks to everyone for thier help and advise.
The Haunted Airman.
Prologue
Despite their protests that they were not sleepy, all three had passed out before they’d left Dover. Brian couldn’t honestly say he blamed them. He was fighting to keep his eyes on the road, deserted this early in the morning, and he hadn’t had to be awake for a 2 am briefing.
“You sure they’ll be safe?” Brian had thought that the Canadian sitting next to him was asleep, but he was jerked out of his thoughts.
“Yes. The Guy who owns this place, Jackie and I have known him since we were children.”
“What did you tell him?” the Canadian’s blue eyes despite been half closed, were sharp.
“That they’re friends of mine. That they’ve been though a rough time and need a place to stay for a couple of weeks.” He shrugged, forcing his eyes to remain on the road.
“I didn’t think it was necessary or prudent to tell him anything more than that.”
The Canadian nodded, before asking.
“What were you thinking before?”
This time Brian did spare a glance into the back seat, and its sleeping occupants.
“I was thinking how easy it is to forget they’re children.”
The Canadian eyes opened properly now and focus upon him.
“They’re not.” He said very softly. “In body yes. In mind,” he shook his head. “They’ve seen too much and done too much for that.”
He turned his attention to the road.
“Ain’t this our turning?”
It was and Brian was furious with himself for almost missing it.
They drove though the gargoyle guarded gates, and along the lime covered drive.
Brian leant back, gently shaking the out most of the three. She jerked awake, her hand going intuitively to the knife at her belt. The action awoke the other two up.
“Easy. Easy. Cat, alright?” the girl calmed slowly, putting her knife away. “We’re here.”
The girl shook herself, regaining control as she gazed at the house rising from between the bushes.
“It looks creepy.” Brian opened his mouth to deny it, but then closed it. His companion was right. They weren’t children.
As they neared the Elizabethan/ Victorian monstrosity, they could see an ambulance. They were carrying a stretcher. The body upon it was covered.
“Looks like there’s an opening.” Bucky observed, watching them.
